A Babies' Life

A babies' life is pretty grand!  Someone, who loves you more than life itself (aka Mom), is there to attend to your every need.  They change you, feed you, rock you and love you - while you just eat, sleep, poop and concentrate on growing and learning.  Sounds pretty fabulous doesn't it?

This is what I was thinking as I was watching all of the moms massage their babies at our Infant Massage & Chiropractic for Kids Clinic this week at Family First Chiropractic and Wellness.  It was really making me want a massage too!

First the Chiropractors, Dr. Joelle Johnson and Dr. Stephen Kelly, gave us the down-low on what kinds of conditions can be treated with Chiropractic Care.  Think everything from gas and colic to ear infections and general fussiness.  What a great way to enhance the health of your little ones - naturally!

Then Chelsea walked us through the basics of infant massage.  A great way to strengthen that bond between you and your little one - infant massage really is easy to do on your own and relaxing for not only baby, but mom too!  Some of the moms in attendance still had baby on the inside - so they practiced using some stuffed animals.  The babies had a great time hanging out, rolling around & playing with their feet - you know, the usual baby stuff!

If you're ever in need of some answers regarding the health of your little ones - don't hesitate to contact the staff at Family First Chiropractic and Wellness.  They are always ready to help - and kids are always welcome at the clinic.  They have a waiting room full of toys to play with - and are ready to answer your questions!

Also, don't forget to check out the 3rd Annual Indigo Festival on March 5 in the Field House at the Collicut Centre from 11am to 4pm.  Family First Chiropractic and Wellness is co-hosting this great natural health fair celebrating Holistic Pregnancy & Parenting - and there will be tons of local businesses there ready to pass on their information to you!  There will also be children's games & activities, speakers, demonstrations, silent auction, and more!   The festival is a fundraiser for La Leche League Canada - Central Chapter and Red Deer City RCMP Kid's Programs - two great causes!  And best of all?  Admission is absolutely FREE!  Don't forget to stop by the momstown Central Alberta booth and say hi!

Busy Busy Busy!

The moms of momstown Central Alberta are busy, busy, busy this week out and around Red Deer trying new things!!

Despite the weather - and all the SNOW on the weekend, Bikram Yoga Red Deer was packed full for their Free Weekend.  What could be better while its blizzarding outside than finding your happy place on a yoga mat?

Next, we hit Intuition Massage & Pilates for a introduction to pilates.  What a great way to get your core back into shape after carrying your little one for 9 months!  Weather you've recently had a baby, or its been a couple of years (like me) we can all benefit from some core strengthening.  I am sure feeling it today!

And finally - some fun with the little ones as the mamas tryed out some classes at Kindermusik Korner with Val Hughes.  We've done this before and I'm sure we'll do it again - what fun the kids have singing, dancing and playing with music!  Check out the winter class schedule on Red Deer LooknBook - under Arts & Culture, Performing Arts - Child.

A (Fun!) Trip to the Dentist

Despite the cold weather we had an excellent turn out for our Dental Happy Visit at Dr. McCue's Office with our very own Robin last week!

We started off with an information session.  The mamas learned about how to brush their child's teeth, how to floss properly and the importance of flossing baby teeth. We also learned about the purpose of baby teeth.

All the kids got a ride in the dental chair - what a treat!  Some loved it so much they went for a second ride!  The older kids got to learn about all of the different dental tools as well.  Each child received a goody bag to take home with them.

Join us for future great events just like this - we're more than just a playgroup (but we're that too)!!

Discover the True Meaning of Christmas

Join Kelly Tibbets of Professional Mortgage Planners, Candy Faces, momstown Central Alberta & Parkland Mall in our quest to teach our little ones all about the true meaning of Christmas.

Friday, December 1, 2010
Parkland Mall Food Court
9:30am - 12:00pm

In lieu of a gift exchange with their friends - the kids can bring a gift for a child in need to be donated to the Christmas Bureau and a donation to the Food Bank and learn that giving to others can truly be as satisfying as receiving.  The kids will then have a chance to have their faces painted, have story time with Mrs. Claus and of course have a visit with Santa Claus.  Each child will receive a gift bag to take home and mom will have the chance to enter in some great door prize draws from our sponsors:

The Christmas Bureau has the greatest need for toys for kids aged 10 - 16.  The Food Bank has requested canned fruit, canned meat, rice & pasta.  Drop boxes will be on hand for both organizations.

Come on over to My House!

We celebrated all kinds of houses today at our My House/Your House craft theme party today.  Lynne from First Steps & Beyond came out to give us a hand with our craft and give us a taste of what they do in their Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten programs for 3 and 4 year olds.

We started off with a craft - the kids had a great time learning about shapes, and fitting them into their respective places on our 'house puzzles'.  Even the younger kids had fun - with some help from mom of course.

Then we enjoyed a snack and the older kids joined Lynne for a story and more learning about houses and shapes!

We ended the day with some playtime with the parachute.  Always a big hit - the kids had a blast playing under our 'house' and having a ride on top.

Join us next month for more crafty fun at our Christmas Party!  If you're looking for a fantastic pre-school program to keep your 3 or 4 year old busy, check out First Steps & Beyond Instructional Centre.  They're taking enrollment now!

What would you do?

If you found yourself in a confrontation that unexpectedly turned physical?  A situation where you needed to defend yourself?  Or worse...??

These are not situations that any mother likes to think about.  We like to focus on our nice little lives, and assume that it will never happen to us.  But it could, it can - and to some, it does.  Thinking about it, planning in your mind what you would do, and learning about how, when & where to strike someone - to defend yourself - and buy the time you need to find help can save your life.

These are the reasons that a group of us mamas took an introduction to self defense course this weekend.  We learned (first and foremost) about how to evade potentially bad situations - simple things like walking in groups, being aware of your surroundings & making eye contact with people as you walk by them.  We learned about the different levels of threat, and their appropriate responses.  We learned about the different areas of vulnerability on the body - everyone's body, regardless of their size or strength.  And we learned, and practiced where possible, some techniques for how to respond to threats and get yourself out of danger as quick as possible and with the least amount of force necessary.  Then we got to punch things :)

Not only was this an afternoon of learning some very valuable information - it was very empowering & alot of fun!!

Fun with musical learning!

momstown had fun last week exploring our options for fall programming with some Kindermusik demo classes courtesy of Kindermusik Korner.

It was amazing to watch the kids enjoy the different activities and movements - all based on music.  You could just see the little imaginations flourishing as we hammered, swam, flew & even washed the laundry!

You can check out all that Kindermusik Korner has to offer this fall on the Red Deer look n book under performing arts - child.  Join momstown Central Alberta for more fun activities all month long by signing up for your free trial membership!
