Little Scientists: Bug Hunt

Are you kids afraid of Bugs? Do they Love Bugs?
My oldest used to be afraid of bugs when she was very little, then she loved then,
then became scared again...

What helped her fear? Actually searching them out!
So this is what momstown Central Alberta planned for our Little Scientist program this month!
Moms and Kids went on a Bug Hunt!

Members were asked to raid their local dollar store for magnifying glasses, bug catchers and even a butterfly net... you need the proper equipment for a successful bug hunt! ha ha

Our location was Kerry Wood Nature Centre in Red Deer,  and it was a beautiful day for the hunt.
First we stopped some bushes and found spiders and grasshoppers!
Unfortunately no one was fast enough to catch one.

Looking for bugs in the bushes

If you look REALLY CLOSELY you will see the smallest spider ever in this bug catcher!

A very small spider

We made our way to the look out point that over looks the pond with lots of water fowl,
and LOTS of bugs!!

Trying to catch one in her net
Having the birds around also fostered the discussion about why bugs are important.
They feed the birds!

I want to see too!!
Join us next month for our little scientist program!
Check the calendar for all the details!
