We had 2 fun experiments for the kids to do with their moms.
Our first experiment was watching bubbles freeze!
The kid loved playing with Bubbles, of course, and most haven't done so since the weather was MUCH warmer, so an extra treat.
Plus we had a beautiful Central Alberta day for it as well!
For this experiment, it has to be below freezing outside, and the bigger the bubble wand the better, as the kids need to catch their bubbles to watch what happens when they freeze.
In our experiment, we were not able to get a whole bubble to freeze, might have worked better if it was a bit colder, but what we were not expecting is that when the bubble mixture did freeze, it was like paper! It would tear, not "pop" like a bubble... The kids AND moms loved finding out what would happen!
When it was time to head back inside and warm up, our experiment was all about the reaction of salt on ice...
To start our experiment, we had the kids "try" to pick up a piece of ice with just a piece of string... no one was successful...
Then we added SALT... What do you think happened?
Yup, the Salt melted the ice where the string was, the string froze to the ice and the kids COULD pick up the ice with just a string!
Very easy and fun science for kids of all ages.
Join us next month for our Little Scientists Program!!
